in tennessee. temperatures warmed up now. so we're not so much dealing with too many problems in areas around nashville and also into louisville and lexington. much of west virginia is warming up. they're mostly dealing with rain. travel on the east coast today, the airports will be a mess in all areas of the northeast today, especially new york city up into boston. philadelphia airports dealing with rain. a lot of rain later today especially in areas of georgia. some rain will push into virginia and washington, d.c., and baltimore and maryland areas. as far as the total accumulations go with this storm, we're mostly looking at a three to five inch event across new england. south coast of new england will be dealing mostly with sleet and mixing in with a little snow. only zero to an inch. and in areas of central connecticut, probably two to three inches. four inches across the catskills. again, not a blockbuster snow event. the timing of this on a full day of work and school for so many is what is causing it to be such a headache. >> thank you, bill. >>> last night new york became the favorit

warnings and the freezing rain advisories extending back into portions of tennessee and into mississippi as well. you can see the pink on the map there on the radar. we are still seeing freezing rain. it makes the roads very slippery, and driving conditions are treacherous in that area. then it transitions over into snow. it's coming down pretty heavily up through boston, stretching right back into providence, rhode island. lighter outside of 495 in that area, but it is still making a mess of the roadways, and we are looking within 24 hours to see about 3 to 6 inches in that a a area. the lighter shade of blue there is a 24-hour snow total, and everywhere else across the northeast basically from northern maine right down to northern pennsylvania, even northern new jersey, we are looking for about 1 to 3 inches. so it is going to be a very slippery morning commute all across the northeast. sa vvanna savannah? >> thank you. president obama will unveil his new recommendations for gun control this morning in the tragedy of newtown, connecticut. and the national rifle association is already

atlanta by thursday. something to keep an eye on. lighter snow possible into tennessee and even back through mississippi and alabama. so we'll be watching that one closely here at the weather channel. 42 degrees by thursday in atlanta, nearly 20 degrees colder. 28 in chicago. only 17 in minneapolis. we're still pretty mild as the air builds back in across the southern plains. 55 in dallas, 60 in houston. how about 73 in los angeles. another clipper system moves through on friday. we're quieting down across much of the east but that will bring light scattered snow across the great lakes and into the upper midwest here. that will be the trend on saturday also. looking dry for the southeast, much colder air in place. 35 in louisville, 24 in chicago, only 40 in new york city on sunday. snowshowers east of the lakes through the interior part of the northeast there on sunday. and on monday looks pretty quiet for the majority of the country. but a lot of cold temperatures on the map. remember you can get the latest forecast week day mornings on the weather channel wake up with al at 5:30.
